MTAM Committees – Engage, Influence, Network, Improve, Have Fun!

One of the great opportunities that MTAM provides to members is the chance to help shape your profession. By joining one of MTAM’s very active, volunteer committees, you can do just that.

There are a variety of committees to choose from and one is bound to be a good fit with your professional development goals:

  • Conference & Events
    • Plan in-person and online events as well as the Annual Spring Conference. New focus on providing interesting, user-friendly online courses and events.
  • Education & Continuing Competency
    • Review and approve courses for continuing competency credits. Work in conjunction with other committees on any activities with an education and continuing competency component.
  • Insurance & Practice Management
    • Create and review policies and best practice documents to assist members with managing their practices. Create practice resources and handy clinic tools. Review member insurance programs on a regular basis.
  • Inclusive Practice (Formerly the LGBT2SQ+ Task Force)
    • Raise awareness regarding barriers to accessing massage therapy among various populations and communities and provide resources to members to help them create more accessible and inclusive practices.
  • Marketing & Communications
    • Create marketing and communications campaigns and resources to promote the benefits of massage therapy to the public and provide members with marketing tools to use in their practices.
  • Regional Initiatives
    • Raise awareness of concerns that may be unique to each region in Manitoba. Assist in planning regional events and creating regionally relevant resources.
  • Research
    • Promote research literacy and encourage evidence-informed massage therapy practice by hosting research events such as Journal Club and our popular Annual Research Symposium.

The general time commitment varies depending on the committee, but on average committees meet about once a month for approximately 1-3 hours. We try not to schedule meetings in August or December though because committee volunteers need a break too!

Meetings are held via Zoom to allow all members, regardless of where they live, an opportunity to be a part of a committee.

Committees also remain active between meetings on a communication platform called Slack.

Helping shape your profession and giving back to your fellow members isn’t the only perk of being an active committee member. You also get:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • Continuing education credits
  • Experience and education toward becoming a future Board member
  • Awareness of the profession on local, provincial and national levels
  • Opportunity to become a more well-rounded healthcare professional

Joining an MTAM committee is just one of the ways that you can be part of the Community, Support, and Growth at MTAM and in the massage therapy profession.

For more information about each of the committees and how to join one, contact MTAM at info@mtam.mb.ca

Videos highlighting each of the committees and their meeting times will be coming soon.

We hope to see you at a committee meeting soon!
