MTAM is the largest association of professional massage therapists in Manitoba. With over 1200 members (practicing, non-practicing, students, retirees, and associate business members), we are able to offer our members a number of great benefits including local education and personalized assistance that will ensure Massage Therapy is one of the most professional, highly-utilized and appreciated health care services in Manitoba.

Led by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by an experienced professional staff, MTAM is gaining momentum and moving forward on important initiatives, like contributing to the national effort for GST/HST exemption for RMTs, maintaining a strong relationship with national and provincial insurers, and completing our work toward regulation. This is in addition to providing our members with reliable information and guidance during the ongoing pandemic, and valuable programs, services and resources.

Massage Therapists Moving to Manitoba
The education of out-of-province graduates making application for membership are evaluated by the Board of Directors on a case-by-case basis and against the National Competency entry to practice standards. Contact the MTAM Office for more information.
Practicing Membership
The MTAM welcomes applications for membership from graduated Massage Therapists who have successfully completed a two-year massage therapy diploma program from a recognized school of massage therapy*, and who have attained a minimum grade point average of 70%.
*The MTAM recognizes schools that are recognized by the regulatory colleges in other provinces. We support a minimum entry to practice education of 2200 hours of instruction, or approximately two years of academic and practical/clinical education based on an approved curriculum. Important Note: Your Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be completed through the Police Service responsible for your jurisdiction. Record checks and searches by third party organizations will not be accepted. Please contact us if you need clarification.
If you have a criminal record, please be sure to apply in advance of your preferred start date as the process to consider Criminal Conviction is longer than the regular process to join the MTAM: Please start by reviewing this policy and form: MTAM Criminal Conviction Policy and Form
Membership Reinstatement & Return to Practice
If you were previously a practicing member of the MTAM and would like to apply for reinstatement of membership, please complete the following Reinstatement Application and provide all the required information and documentation.

Returning to Practice: RMT's who do not practice massage therapy for more than five consecutive years (60 months) can still be eligible to reinstate with the MTAM but additional information will be required to allow the Board of Directors to evaluate circumstances on a case-by-case basis. This information could include evidence of current or recent massage therapy practice in another jurisdiction, mentoring, or other indications that the person has been eager in keeping updated on their education and practice. Please contact adminsupport@mtam.mb.ca to begin the discussion.
Non-Practicing Membership
Non-Practicing members of the MTAM are individuals who meet the requirements for practicing membership (including ongoing professional development and continuing competency activities), but who are not practicing massage therapy within Manitoba at this time. Non-practicing membership does not include liability insurance.
If you are a practicing member of the MTAM and want to change your membership status to non-practicing (or vice versa), please contact the MTAM office. You will need to provide a written request to change your membership status.
Individuals may only have non-practicing membership in the MTAM for up to five consecutive years (60 months), except in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Exceptional circumstances may include evidence of current or recent massage therapy practice in another jurisdiction.
Student Membership
If you are currently enrolled at a recognized school of massage therapy in Manitoba, you can apply to join the MTAM as a student member. Student membership is free for eligible individuals. Students are non-practicing members.

For Clinics, Spas, and Others: Associate Membership
Associate Members are clinic owners, businesses and other organizations who are not RMTs themselves but employ or contract MTAM RMTs and would like to be a part of our community of Registered Massage Therapists. They support our mission to promote and enhance the art, science and philosophy of massage therapy in a professional and ethical manner to ensure the highest level of competency based practice for massage therapy within the province of Manitoba.
