Course Submissions for the MTAM Education & Continuing Competency Program 

The MTAM currently approves education courses for members to fulfill their Continuing Education needs. This role will eventually transition to a Regulatory College once in place.

How to Submit a Course

The MTAM requires detailed information from the course provider/instructor who is seeking credit approval. The Committee encourages members seeking approval for a course to send the course provider to this on-line approval application:

---> How do I submit an application for course approval?

Applications for course approval must be made by the course provider or instructor via the MTAM website online application system. Continuing Education Course Approval Application.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

---> I am having trouble with my application - who can I contact for help?

If you have questions or are experiencing any difficulties completing your application please contact the Education & Event Manager for assistance.

---> How often does the committee meet to review course approval applications?

The Education and Continuing Competency committee meets monthly (with the exception of July, August and December) to review course approval applications. 

---> How does the committee determine if a course is eligible for credits?

The committee reviews the both the course content and instructor’s background when determining course eligibility.

---> To be eligible for core competency credits a course must be:

·     Directly related to the MTAM scope of practice, recognized massage therapy competencies, and the professional responsibilities associated with massage therapy practice. 

·     Taught by an instructor with the necessary experience and education for that course. 

AND

·     The modality must be eligible for coverage under the MTAM professional liability insurance policy

 

To be eligible for complementary credits a course must be:

·     A learning opportunity that is complementary to but not directly related to the MTAM Scope of Practice in fundamental theory, application, and/or intent.

·     Taught by an instructor with the necessary experience and education for that course. 

 

---> How long does it take to determine if my course is eligible for credits with MTAM?

It can take up to 8 weeks to complete a review of your course application. 

---> How will I be notified if my course is approved?

Applicants will be notified by email if their course was approved along with the number and type of credits the course has been given.

---> How long is a course approval valid for?

Courses are approved for a 2-year time period from the date of approval. It is the course provider’s responsibility to keep track of expiry dates. Reminder emails will not be sent.

---> My course approval has expired.  Do I have to complete a whole new application?

Yes - A new application containing all relevant changes and upgrades to the course content must be made.

---> Is there a fee to have a course assessed for credits?  

There is currently no fee to have a course approval application reviewed by the ECC committee.
