Massage Therapy for Clients with a History of Trauma or PTSD: A 6-part webinar series

12 Core Competency Credits

This webinar presentation by Pamela Fitch is a 6-part series being held on Saturday mornings from 9:00am-11:00am CST.

"Loved the PTSD/Trauma webinars! The format was great - gave us time to integrate the information we learned and build on over the 6 weeks. Would be great to have more Pam workshops!"Feedback from the 2021 event series

This series prepares massage therapists to work safely with patients or clients who have experienced some form of trauma. It integrates evidence-based trauma literature with ways to assess client safety. It also demonstrates how to avoid client touch triggers while providing client-centered care within a massage therapist’s scope of practice. Within the framework of the webinar, participants engage in professional discussion and case-based learning.

Each 2-hour module consists of a webinar lecture followed by a question and answer session that ensures enough time to consider actual case questions and issues arising from practice. Participants engage in confidential peer support and are encouraged to bring questions from their own treatment room experiences. For this reason, participants must enroll for the entire series. It is not possible to attend single sessions.

The series is based on the following text: Fitch, P. (2019, 2nd Ed.). Talking Body Listening Hands: A guide to professionalism, communication and the therapeutic relationship.

Join the MTAM's Research Committee member Gillian Grodzik for the first Journal Club of 2022!  This year, our theme is massage and the nervous system.  Gillian will be presenting a webinar on the research article "Anatomic connections of the diaphragm: influence of respiration on the body system".  This is an exciting article that delves into muscular and fascial anatomy, as well as the innervation of the diaphragm muscle - a key player in helping to regulate and soothe the nerves, as well as the main muscle of inspiration!  This webinar will also include a handful of breathing techniques and gentle movement practices, guided by Gillian who is also a yoga teacher.  The goal of this Journal Club is two-fold; to enhance the RMT's anatomical and neural understanding of the diaphragm, and to walk away with simple yet powerful exercises for self and client care.
