Join Research committee member Gillian Grodzik RMT, as she shares her interview with fellow RMT and owner of Equilibrium Massage Therapy & Wellness Centre - Jenna McMahon RMT.

Jenna has been the sole operator of EQ Wellness for twelve years. In the winter of 2020, she suffered a brain injury while taking her dog for a walk. To this day, she is still not well enough to return to the hands on work of massage.

Gillian will highlight the complexities of concussions - often referred to as invisible injuries, and share the personal story of Jenna as she continues to navigate her healing journey.

There will be ample time for sharing and discussing at the end of this interview style webinar, so please engage in the way you feel comfortable!

Mental Health First Aid - Basic Level

This course will be held IN-PERSON over two days: October 12th & 13th, 2021 


Mental Health First Aid – Basic is a 12-hour course in which participants will learn how to provide initial help to people who are showing signs of a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

The philosophy behind this training is that mental health crisis, such as suicidal and self-harming actions, may be avoided through early intervention.
If crisis do arise, then members of the public can take action that may reduce the harm that could result.

In the Basic course, the following mental health problems are covered:
·    Mood disorders
·    Anxiety disorders
·    Psychosis
·    Substance Use Disorder

 

MTAM Practicing/Non-Practicing/Retired/Student Members: $219 + GST
MTAM Associate Members: $239 + GST

Non-Members: $249 + GST

Fee includes course textbook and handouts. 

*No lunch will be provided. There are numerous food service options in the area. Participants may use the fridge and microwave if they choose to bring their own lunch. 
Minimum of 8 participants required

*This in-person course will be held following the current public health order guidelines. Participants must wear masks and follow posted sanitization and physical distancing protocols. Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

Discussion on Concussions

This lecture will look at the mechanism and pathological response of a concussion. The potential complications of Second Impact Syndrome and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) will be discussed. The latest research into the management of concussions will be presented. The relationship between cervicogenic pain and post-concussion syndrome and the role of massage therapy as part of the health care team will be open for discussion.
