This 2 day in-person From the Neck Up™ course, is designed to elevate manual therapists skill set with the treatment of the tongue, voice an swallowing, and reflect the importance of thorough treatment for patients with dysfunction & symptoms of these areas/functions. It presents a four-pillar clinical framework, Understanding, Assessing, Treating, and Managing approach to best educate manual therapists. This course delves into neck & tongue functional assessments, anterior neck treatment, joint & laryngeal mobilizations, floor of mouth and tongue techniques. With a focus on palpation (both from and on the instructor), assessment, and clinical reasoning for the treatment of the tongue, voice and swallowing, this course is perfect for anyone who is interested in helping this demographic of patients, taking a deeper look at TMDs and elevating their practice.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1- Understand the anatomical relationships associated between the neck, jaw, tongue, and laryngeal area
2- Assess key subjective and objective indicators related to dysfunction and symptoms in these anatomical areas
3- Treat Tongue, Voice and Swallowing symptoms and dysfunctions within the RMT scope of practice
4- Manage patient expectations, contra-indications, inter professional referral pathways, treatment plans and self-care plans
Jules Poulin is a practicing Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario since 2000. She has dedicated her career to physical rehabilitation. In particular, since 2009, she has focused her practice on the rehabilitation of the jaw, neck, tongue and voice. After several years of travel throughout North America to take courses for these anatomical areas and with a patient demographic that was exclusive to TMJ, neck, tongue and voice rehabilitation, she opened From the Neck Up™ in Toronto in 2018; North America’s first and only Registered Massage Therapy clinic dedicated to the rehabilitation of the jaw, head, neck, voice and tongue. She has been published in massage therapy and dental publications, spoke at conferences, has been interviewed by several media outlets and launched the From the Neck Up™ Academy in 2024. Her courses which are both patient-centric and manual therapist-centric have been making waves throughout Ontario and beyond with over 200 participants trained thus far and over 100 more anticipated for 2026.
Participants are encouraged to bring a v-neck and a tank top.

Cancellations made prior to one month before to the course start date will receive a full refund less a 10% administration fee. Cancellations made between one month and two-weeks before the course start date receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given for cancellations from 2 weeks prior to the course start date. Extenuating circumstances will always be considered. Please note, last minute emergency cancellations are subject to a 10% administration fee.
