MTAM is the largest association of professional massage therapists in Manitoba. With over 1200 members (practicing, non-practicing, students, retirees, and associate business members), we offer our members a number of great benefits including local education and personalized assistance that will help ensure Massage Therapy is one of the most professional, highly utilized, and appreciated health care services in Manitoba.
Led by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by an experienced professional staff, MTAM is gaining momentum and moving forward on important initiatives, like contributing to the national effort for GST/HST exemption for RMTs, maintaining a strong relationship with national and provincial insurers, and completing our work toward regulation. This is in addition to providing our members with reliable information and guidance during the ongoing pandemic, and valuable programs, services, and resources.
Your MTAM Practicing membership provides you with Manitoba-focussed advocacy and support with Canada-wide liability insurance (handy if you need to practice out of province from time to time).

Student memberships are free and student members are eligible to apply for our annual Student Scholarship Award, volunteer on MTAM committees, and are able to nominate individuals for annual MTAM awards. Student members can also take advantage of a variety of discounts offered by businesses to MTAM members.

Our Practice Management team is made up of RMTs from a variety of backgrounds and who have extensive professional experience in all areas of professional practice. Over the past 50 years MTAM has built strong relationships with health benefit insurance providers. They trust MTAM’s high standards which means that you have more time to focus on direct client care.
MTAM’s practicing members are recognized for claims reimbursement by all health benefit insurers (provided the client’s plan covers massage therapy) and are eligible for to apply for direct billing provider numbers with all insurers including but not limited to TELUS Health, Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross, Sun Life (Lumino), Greenshield (providerConnect), and The Cooperators (theclaimsXchange).
MTAM has assisted members and advocated for them during insurance audits and has several resources to help members be as prepared as possible if an audit should be requested.

Professional Development is a cornerstone of ethical, professional and competent practice in health care. All MTAM members participate in a self-directed Professional Development Program. MTAM provides a framework to make it easy for members to self-assess, set goals, and plan education activities to help meet those goals. MTAM provides a wide variety of high-quality courses and activities for members to choose from – many of which are free for members. There are also hundreds of approved courses from other course providers. Workshops, home-study, webinars, and the Annual MTAM Spring Conference – The options available allow you to select professional development based on your goals, interests, learning style, time, and budget.

MTAM advocates on behalf of our members to all levels of government. Recent municipal projects included reviewing and providing guidance on by-law changes which had an impact on RMTs and/or their practices.

All practicing members can be listed in the member directory. The directory can accommodate multiple clinic locations for each member.

We also highlight members and the profession during Massage Therapy Awareness week, and in our various radio, print, TV and online advertising campaigns.
Members are kept up to date on MTAM’s events and activities, advocacy, progress toward regulation, and other initiatives through the Monthly In-Touch Newsletter, member emails, webinars and member events.
