Regulation Update

January 2, 2024

On December 11, 2023 MTAM President Offer Kuban, Vice President Stephanie Oteyza, and Executive Director Tricia Weidenbacher accepted an invitation to meet with MLA Jelynn Dela Cruz regarding regulation of the massage therapy profession in Manitoba.

MLA Dela Cruz is the Legislative Assistant for Health, Seniors and Long Term Care. She requested to meet at the MTAM office to discuss our road to regulation. We were happy to provide her with information and history on our quest for regulation, steps taken to date, and advise her of many of the challenges the public and RMTs face due to the current lack of regulation.

MTAM is committed to working with the current government to expedite the regulation of the massage therapy profession to increase public safety and reduce barriers many Manitobans face in accessing a valued and effective form of healthcare. We look forward to future meetings and will continue to post updates here.

Following the recent Provincial election, St. Boniface MLA Robert Loiselle has reached out to MTAM to discuss massage therapy regulation, voice his support and appreciation for the work MTAM is doing for the massage therapy profession. We will be meeting with Mr. Loiselle in the coming weeks to discuss a plan which will bring our regulation to the forefront with MLA Uzoma Asagwara the new Health Minister. MTAM appreciates Mr. Loiselle’s advocacy and we look forward to our coming conversations.
